Here is a good editorial on the Big Love issue. http://www.mormontimes.com/mormon_voices/joel_campbell/?id=6663
I am really frustrated about this whole thing. The fact of the matter is they are portraying Sacred rites, in a show they keep claiming has nothing to do with the Mormon Church but infact is built on premises such as the fact that the Church is at least not as dilligent in routing out polygamists as it could be. The whole issue is very frustrating.
I have opposed this show from the start. It would have been way more realistic to set it among Muslim immigrants from Ivory Coast in New York City. Then there would have been a grain of truth behind the show.
I wish I had hope that boycotts and protests would alter the actions of HBO. However, I have seen too many movements against Holyywood come to naught.
I will just encorage people to not watch any episodes of anything on HBO. They have crossed the lines of basic respect and decency. They went way too far. The thing that disturbes me the most is there are actually Church members who like and support this evil, awful, no good and destructive show. I have no end to my anger and disdain towards this awful work.

I also know LDS members who watch the show, though I never have and never care to. I don't watch much tv as it is. From my understanding, besides the pseudo doctrinal content, there are sex scenes nearly every week. It's just like watching an R-rated movie (or at least a hard PG-13 one) every week. That's just not something I need to inviting into my home every week.
I agree though, that boycotts will be pretty ineffectual. Those who like the show will continue to watch it regardless of what happens onscreen and those who don't will continue to avoid it for exactly what happens onscreen.
